One killed, others injured as illegal miners clash with Darkokrom residents
Edwine Atteh Djaba, a 34-year-old farmer, was killed during a violent confrontation between residents of Darkokrom and suspected illegal miners in the Atiwa East District of the Eastern Region. Samuel Nartay Dapaah, a 76-year-old resident, and several others sustained gunshot wounds. Residents claim the violence stemmed from growing frustration over the activities of illegal miners, whom they accuse of invading the community, destroying farmlands, and polluting water bodies.

Doku Peter, spokesperson for the Darkokrom community, alleged that illegal miners have destroyed cocoa, plantain, and cassava farms, polluted streams, and abandoned several uncovered pits, posing a danger to residents. He appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and other security agencies to intervene immediately.
