Retired Fire Officer granted GH¢350K bail over alleged enlistment scam
Thomas Dorkenu, a retired Fire Officer, was granted GH¢350,000 bail by an Accra Circuit Court over an alleged GH¢303,200 enlistment scam involving 60 applicants. He appeared before the court for the second time and pleaded not guilty to a charge of defrauding by false pretences. He was granted bail with two sureties, and the case was adjourned to September 24, 2026.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Emmanuel Nyamekye, opposed the bail application, requesting an additional two weeks to complete the investigation. The prosecution stated that investigations were at an advanced stage and argued that Dorkenu was a flight risk, saying, "he is now staying in the Volta Region where he allegedly collected the amount involved." Defence Counsel urged the court to grant bail, stating Dorkenu had been in Police custody since his arrest on July 28, 2026, and was first put before the court on August 3, 2026. Counsel disputed the assertion that Dorkenu lived in the Volta Region, stating, "He lives at Ashongman Estates."
