No more laptop, shoe removal as GACL introduces new screening system
Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) introduced new state-of-the-art security screening equipment at the passenger screening checkpoints of Terminals 2 and 3 of the Accra International Airport. The upgrade is aimed at enhancing aviation security while improving the travel experience for passengers through faster and more convenient screening procedures. Under the new system, passengers will no longer be required to remove laptops and other large electronic devices from their cabin baggage during security checks. Passengers may also keep their shoes and belts on while going through screening, except in situations where additional checks are required as part of security profiling.
The new equipment will also allow passengers to keep Liquids, Aerosols and Gels (LAGs) in their cabin baggage during screening, although existing regulations restricting containers above 100ml remain in force. GACL said the introduction of an Automatic Tray Return System will further improve efficiency by allowing trays used during screening to be returned quickly to passengers for repacking. The migration to the new security system will be implemented gradually, with the new equipment operating alongside existing screening procedures during the transition period. GACL appealed to passengers and stakeholders for their cooperation as the airport begins operations with the upgraded security technology.
