Ghanaian pilgrim dies while performing tawaf at the Haram in Mecca
Musah Sidi, a 53-year-old Ghanaian pilgrim, died while performing Tawaf at the Haram in Mecca. The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) announced the news in a statement dated May 22, 2026.
According to the PAOG statement, Mr. Sidi collapsed at the Haram during Tawaf and passed away shortly afterwards. His family has been informed of his death. PAOG noted that "dying while performing Tawaf is regarded in Islamic tradition as a profound blessing and a sign of a beautiful end for a Muslim." The statement also noted, "In Islamic tradition, a pilgrim who dies in a state of worship and in Ihram is promised immense spiritual honour in the hereafter." The office extended its deepest condolences to the family, sympathisers, and loved ones of the deceased, praying that Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him Jannatul Firdaus.
His body is being prepared for Jannaza prayers following Jummah prayers, ahead of interment.
