Abandoned Agenda 111 hospital site at Kasoa becomes haven for criminals
Abandoned Agenda 111 hospital site has become a haven for criminals after the contractor abandoned the site following the 2024 general elections in the Awutu Senya East Municipality.
The uncompleted project is located at Jei River, a suburb of Kasoa Ofaakor in the Central Region. Construction began in 2023 - two years behind the original 2021 schedule - due to land disputes. The project is estimated to be approximately 41 percent complete. Residents say the abandoned site has since become a hideout for criminals and a habitat for wild animals. Attacks on community members, including senior high school students, have become a worrying pattern. Kasoa has a population of over 236,000, according to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, but is served by only one polyclinic and a mother and child hospital. Many residents currently travel as far as Winneba and Weija-Gbawe to access medical care.
Residents are appealing to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister of Health to intervene and ensure the contractor returns to the site to complete the project.
