World Bank communication shows Awerco fulfilled contractual obligations - Lawyer on Weija Children's Hospital project
Yaw Acquah, lawyer for Awerco Construction Limited, says communication from the World Bank indicates that his client "fulfilled all the terms of the contract" on the Weija-Gbawe Children's Hospital project. He made this statement in an interview on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem.
Mr. Acquah criticized recent public comments by the Ministry of Health spokesperson, Tony Goodman, saying the ministry's claims are inaccurate. Awerco maintains that the ministry's claims "do not reflect the situation on the ground." Mr. Acquah stated that legal action will be pursued where necessary and that Awerco is prepared to defend its position within the law. He also expressed concern that earlier statements from Mr. Goodman created tension.
The World Bank stated that the 120-bed specialised paediatric hospital at Weija was constructed and equipped under its COVID-19 Emergency Preparedness and Response Project at a total cost of US$10.15 million. The World Bank said it remains "strongly desirous" of seeing the hospital opened to the public. The project officially closed on December 16, 2025, after a six-month extension, but some critical outstanding activities were still pending at the time of closure. Mr. Acquah hopes the ministry will reconsider its position and work toward resolving issues to allow the stalled hospital project to progress.
Quick Summary
Awerco Construction Limited's lawyer claims World Bank communication validates their work on the Weija-Gbawe Children's Hospital project-contrary to the Ministry of Health's claims. The lawyer hints at potential legal action, raising questions about the future of the stalled project.
