UniMAC-SOJAMS begins practical training and mentorship series
UniMAC-SOJAMS began a series of practical training sessions on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC). The series aims to equip students with real-life skills for the media industry. The first session featured Beatrice Adu, who described social media as a form of "currency" and advised students to "Build your social, and thank me later but be credible, because that comes with it."
During her nearly 60-minute presentation, Ms. Adu encouraged students to use available tools, including digital platforms, to verify information before publication. She stressed that accuracy remains a key pillar of journalism. Etse Sikanku, Dean of SOJAMS, described the workshop as a key complement to what students study in the lecture halls. He noted, "It is not about getting a first-class degree. A first-class degree can show that you think and you can make sense of an event, but can you apply that in a real-world setting?" The seminar room was filled to capacity, as students, most of whom were in their first year, followed the session intently.
Award-winning journalist Portia Gabor is set to be the next guest in the SOJAMS training series.
