Two Obuasi SecTech teachers arrested over alleged assault on headmaster

Abdulai Zakaria, headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, was allegedly attacked on August 5, 2026, following tensions on campus. Two teachers from the school have been arrested by police over their alleged involvement in the attack. Police preliminary investigations indicate that the two teachers allegedly instigated students to attack the headmaster. The headmaster was hospitalized and, after his release, gave a formal statement to the police, mentioning names of students who attacked him and teachers who instigated them.

Superintendent Mahama Iddrisu, Obuasi District Police Commander, stated that three teachers were initially picked up for questioning. Investigations later focused on two of the teachers, who are expected to be put before court. Students accused the headmaster of involvement in ritual activities and alleged inappropriate relationships with female students. Superintendent Iddrisu said, "Initially, there were three people that we picked yesterday, and then we investigated. We took their statements and through their statements and the headmaster's statement, we see that they have a lot of questions to answer." He added, "So, as I'm speaking now, we are putting them before court this morning so that we seek for remand."
