Oti Regional NPP Women's Organiser aspirant calls on Nkwanta South residents to restore peace for development
Olivia Yawa Aglago, former Oti Regional Women's Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and aspiring candidate, has appealed to residents of Nkwanta South during this year's Eid-ul-Adha celebration at the Nkwanta English/Arabic School Park to "embrace peace and unity to restore development in the area."
Aglago expressed concern about the negative impact of the protracted conflict in the municipality, noting that it has gradually weakened businesses and disrupted social cohesion. She said that Nkwanta South, once regarded as a key driver of development in the Oti Region, is increasingly being affected by insecurity, leading to displacement and loss of lives. She urged residents to forgive one another and prioritise reconciliation, stressing that unity is essential for economic recovery and that sustained peace will allow businesses to thrive and help reduce the growing poverty affecting young people and households across the municipality.
Some residents who spoke to Adom News underscored the importance of peace, describing poverty, not weapons, as the community's real enemy. The youth appealed to all feuding groups to lay down their arms and commit to peaceful coexistence for improved living conditions.
