Motorists warned of traffic disruptions as gov't begins nationwide flood recovery operation
Motorists across flood-affected parts of Ghana have been advised to prepare for temporary traffic diversions and restricted access on some roads as the government intensifies a nationwide flood clean-up and engineering operation. Brigadier General Forster Okae-Yeboah, Director General of Joint Operations of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), issued this advisory during a national briefing on the government's response to recent floods. He stressed that "As part of these operations, the public is advised that portions of roads may experience temporary traffic diversions or restricted access while the clean-up and engineering works are underway."
Brigadier General Okae-Yeboah explained that these measures are essential for the safe execution of drainage reconstruction, debris removal, and other emergency interventions. The clean-up exercise is entering an intensive operational phase involving heavy machinery, engineering teams, and coordinated security deployments across affected districts. The operation brings together the Ghana Armed Forces, other security agencies, and local government authorities. Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) have been directed to organize and lead clean-up exercises within their respective areas.
