Asokwa MCE links recent MoMo attacks to Asafo Market decongestion exercise

Amoh Kamel, Municipal Chief Executive for Asokwa, linked recent attacks on Mobile Money (MoMo) vendors in the Asokwa Municipality to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly's (KMA) decongestion exercise around the Asafo Market on Tuesday, August 11. He stated that the evacuation displaced groups of people from the Asafo Market area, with some moving into communities across the Greater Kumasi area. This contributed to isolated security incidents, including attacks on MoMo vendors at Kaase and Ahensan Estate.

Mr. Kamel said the situation prompted the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) to hold a series of emergency meetings. He assured residents that enhanced security measures had been deployed to vulnerable areas. His comments followed the arrest of two key suspects believed to be linked to the recent MoMo vendor attacks. Mr. Kamel said the suspects were arrested yesterday by the Ashanti Regional Police Command's Anti-Robbery Team with support from the municipal and divisional police commands through intelligence-led operations. The municipality is awaiting an official briefing from the Regional Police Command.
