Flood prevention is a shared responsibility-Linda Ocloo
Linda Obenewaa Ocloo emphasized on May 28 that flood prevention is a shared responsibility, stating, "Flood prevention is not the responsibility of government alone. It requires collective discipline and active participation from all residents of the region." She urged residents to desist from indiscriminate disposal of waste into drains and waterways and advised those in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant. She also cautioned motorists and pedestrians against moving through flooded roads.
Mrs. Ocloo directed all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) within the region to intensify sanitation activities, particularly after rainfall. She disclosed that the Weija Dam had been opened following heavy rainfall and rising water levels, affecting nearby communities and infrastructure. According to her, the controlled spillage from the dam was necessary to prevent possible structural damage and safeguard lives.
The Regional Security Council (REGSEC) will undertake an inspection exercise in affected areas to assess the extent of destruction and facilitate the evacuation of affected persons where necessary.
