UAE donates relief items worth over GH¢12m to June 29 flood victims
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) donated relief items valued at more than GH₵12 million to support communities and families affected by the June 29 floods in Ghana. The donation, comprising food, rice, drinking water, blankets, and sleeping mattresses, was formally presented at the headquarters of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Accra. A symbolic presentation was made to some flood-affected victims within the Circle enclave.
The assistance includes 13,000 food boxes, 20,000 rice packages, 10,000 cartons of bottled water, more than 8,000 blankets, and more than 5,000 sleeping mattresses. These items were all procured in Ghana. The donation follows the Government's appeal for international support to assist victims of the June 29 floods, which displaced nearly 90,000 people, affected close to 80,000 households, and claimed about 34 lives. A Rapid Needs Assessment identified food assistance as the highest priority for 93 percent of affected communities.
