Deadly Aseseso hill crash sparks fresh road safety demands
A police officer died in a crash on March 21, 2026, on the Somanya-Adukrom highway. The accident involved a police Rhino Kia mini truck on the Aseseso hill. The vehicle, carrying three male occupants, reportedly developed a gear lever fault while descending the steep hill.
Personnel from the Kpong Municipal Fire Station responded to a distress call and rescued two civilians from the wreckage. The two civilians were conveyed to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital for treatment. Mr. Emmanuel Ashiabi, the Administrator of the Yilo Krobo District Hospital, said that the two injured civilians, aged 53 and 20, received treatment and were later discharged. He said the prompt response by the fire service ensured the injured victims received timely medical attention.
The incident has drawn attention to the dangerous nature of the Aseseso hill, which had recorded multiple fatal crashes over the years.
