We will continue with Premier League games despite robbery attack - Berekum Chelsea
Berekum Chelsea will continue to compete in the Ghana Premier League, with players receiving psychological support to cope with the situation. Albert Diewuo, Communication Team Member of Berekum Chelsea, confirmed that the team is not considering a withdrawal, stating, "We will continue with the league and rely on our psychologist to help the players recover for the next games. We are not considering withdrawing."
The playing body and technical team members were attacked by armed robbers while returning from their Matchday 29 game against FC Samartex at the DUN's Park on Sunday. Forward Dominic Frimpong died after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head during the incident. Albert Diewuo explained that the team's travel plans often depend on the availability of police support, stating, "Sometimes we travel with security, sometimes we don't. We request a police escort; if we get it, we go with them; if not, we move on our own. Yesterday we had no police escort."
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will engage key stakeholders to review and strengthen team travel security for domestic competitions to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
