Felix Kwakye Ofosu rejected claims by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that democracy is under attack under the current administration, arguing that recent events demonstrate that citizens continue to enjoy the freedom to protest and criticise government. He stated, "It is not true that democracy is under attack because under the NPP, could anyone demonstrate and go to the Jubilee House? But the NPP during their recent demonstration had the privilege to come to the Jubilee House and submit a petition."
The NPP, during its demonstration, accused the government of using state investigative and security agencies to target opposition members through arbitrary arrests, detention, and harassment. Mr. Kwakye Ofosu recalled demonstrations held under the previous NPP government where 39 young people were arrested and remanded for disturbing public order during a demo against galamsey. He noted that during the NPP demo, he stayed in traffic for over an hour.
