NIA simplifies Ghana Card registration for Ghanaians abroad
The National Identification Authority (NIA) has outlined a four-step process to enable Ghanaians living abroad to register for and obtain the Ghana Card. This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and aims to make the registration process more accessible to citizens outside the country. For applicants in the United Kingdom and other countries outside Africa, the registration fee is the equivalent of US$115.
Applicants must first complete an online application and pay the fee, then undergo a virtual interview, after which successful applicants receive a confirmation message with a QR code. The third stage involves biometric data capture at a Ghana Mission, requiring an appointment and the QR code. A special London Pop-Up Registration is scheduled for August 1, 2026, at Copthall Playing Fields, London. The final stage involves printing and issuing the Ghana Cards. The NIA has encouraged Ghanaians living abroad to begin the registration process online.
