MoMo vendor fights back as armed robber dies in failed GH¢140,000 heist at Lashibi, Accra
MoMo vendor fought back after a robbery attack at Lashibi in Accra on Friday, July 3, 2026, resulting in an alleged armed robber being shot dead and a stolen bag containing GH¢140,000 being recovered. The Accra Regional Police Command stated the vendor was driving home with cash when two armed men on a motorbike attacked him, opening fire on his vehicle, damaging the right rear tyre and front windscreen before taking the bag. The victim fought back, firing at the suspects as they fled, killing one assailant at the scene.
The second suspect escaped, abandoning the bag with the GH¢140,000, which police later recovered. The mobile money vendor was unhurt. A search of the deceased suspect, identified by an identification card as Innocent Elemuwa Akachukeu, aged 46, recovered an AK-47 assault rifle, two magazines with 55 rounds of live ammunition, an additional 11 rounds, GH¢3,000 in cash, and a Samsung mobile phone. Crime scene investigators found five AK-47 spent shells and two pistol spent shells. The body is at the Police Hospital mortuary. The Regional Police Command is investigating and searching for the fleeing suspect, appealing for public information.
