The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has condemned a video showing a man violently assaulting a woman in Cape Coast. The Ministry described the act as "cruel and unacceptable" in a statement issued on Sunday, March 29.
The Ministry stated that violence against any person is punishable under Ghanaian law and constitutes serious offenses under the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732) and the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The Ministry has attempted to contact the victim, using a telephone number believed to belong to her, but has been unsuccessful so far.
Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, has formally referred the matter to the Ghana Police Service for urgent investigation and appropriate action.
