Men's mental health matter
Men's mental health is shaped by culture, ethnicity, and geography. Work is a cornerstone of identity for many men, with employment, success, and providing for family tied to self-worth. Job loss, underemployment, or workplace discrimination can deeply wound men's sense of identity, and retirement poses risks as men lose income, purpose, and community. Substance use, including alcohol, drugs, or excessive reliance on prescription medications, is a common coping mechanism for men to numb pain, escape reality, or mask symptoms of depression and anxiety. This can lead to addiction, compounding mental health struggles.
