Private medical practitioners call for waiver of import duties, taxes on cancer treatment equipment
The Society of Private Medical and Dental Practitioners urged the government to waive import duties and taxes on advanced, high-tech cancer treatment equipment during a press encounter at the end of the 45th Annual General Meeting held in Ho. Dr. Andre Kwasi Kumah, the National President of the society, stated, "We, therefore, want to suggest to the government to waive off the import duties and taxes on such items, and facilitate their ready discharge from the ports."
Dr. Kumah explained that this waiver would enhance the country's capacity for managing cancer and enable the private sector to meet its expectations, easing the government's burden in cancer treatment. He also requested dedicated funding in the annual budgets or financial guarantees to enable the private sector to seek assistance from banks. He underscored the need to upgrade treatment technology, integrate care into insurance, increase community screening, and establish a comprehensive cancer training institute in each district.
