Former West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic joins race for Black Stars coaching job?
Slaven Bilić has moved to the front of the race to take over as head coach of the Ghana national team. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is stepping up efforts to appoint a successor ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The search for a new manager follows the departure of Otto Addo, whose second stint in charge ended after a disappointing run of results, including friendly defeats to Austria and Germany.
The 57-year-old Croatian has reportedly held talks with the GFA, which is said to regard him as a strong candidate to guide the Black Stars through a key rebuilding phase. Former Portugal and Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz, ex-Portugal manager Fernando Santos, and Tom Saintfiet are also being considered. The GFA is weighing up a short-term arrangement of around four months for the next appointment. The GFA Executive Council meeting on April 10 failed to reach a conclusion. Reports suggest a proposed salary package of around $50,000.
An official announcement is expected in the coming days. Ghana is scheduled to regroup in May for a friendly against Mexico, followed by another warm-up match against Wales on June 2. Ghana begin their campaign on June 17 against Panama before facing two heavyweight tests against England and Croatia. The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
Quick Summary
Slaven Bilic is reportedly a leading candidate for the Black Stars coaching job- as the GFA seeks a successor to Otto Addo. Financial constraints and a desire for a short-term solution may impact the decision.
