Boye Moses: Nkrumah's trusted security officer, who was caged and paraded through Accra
Boye Moses, a senior security officer for Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, was seized and smuggled back into Ghana after the 1966 coup. He was paraded in a cage through the streets of Accra before being locked up. This action was aimed at sending a message to anyone still loyal to Nkrumah that even his most trusted men were not safe.
Moses was part of the group that traveled with Nkrumah to Hanoi in 1966 when soldiers took over the government in Ghana. Nkrumah did not return to Ghana after the coup but went to Conakry, Guinea, and Moses chose to stay with him there. While in exile, Nkrumah sent Moses on intelligence-gathering errands along the West Coast of Africa. His movements were discovered by Ghanaian intelligence agencies, and he was tracked down due to close ties between Ghana's government and neighboring Dahomey (now Benin) and Nigeria. The operation involved three different services.
