2026 WC: Black Stars will rewrite their legacy, says Kurt Okraku
Kurt Okraku says the Black Stars "will seize the opportunity to rewrite their legacy at the 2026 World Cup." He spoke at the launch of the GFA Fundraising Campaign at the Kempinski Hotel on March 20.
The senior national team will make their fifth World Cup appearance this summer in a tournament co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The four-time African champions have been drawn into Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. Their campaign will open against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, followed by a clash with England on June 23, before concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27. Okraku acknowledged past disappointments, including group-stage exits in Brazil 2014 and Qatar 2022, but expressed confidence in coach Otto Addo and his squad. He said, "Today, we are very confident that the intangible assets that we have produced over time, the intangible assets that have been put together by coach [Otto] Addo and his team, we will make Ghana proud." He added, "We will go into this tournament with our chest up, ready to fight for the strip and ready to change our story. We fear no foe and believe me, Ghana football will speak."
In preparation for the tournament, the Black Stars have reconvened for friendly matches against Austria and Germany.
