GFA is disrespecting local coaches - Bashir Hayford
Bashir Hayford criticized the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over a perceived lack of respect and recognition for local coaches, following remarks by GFA Executive Council member Frederick Acheampong. Acheampong had disclosed that the GFA was considering adding a Ghanaian coach to the Black Stars' technical team but had not yet identified a suitable local coach. Hayford reacted in an interview with Asempa FM's Ultimate Sports Show, stating, "I don't know why the GFA could not identify any local coach who could join the technical team. There are a lot of competent local coaches who could join the technical team." He added that for the Executive Council to conclude there is no competent local coach is disrespectful.
Hayford, a former coach of Asante Kotoko and Heart of Lions, believes there are many local coaches who could join the Black Stars technical team. His comments come amid uncertainty regarding the future of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, whose contract is reportedly unlikely to be extended. Queiroz guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32.
