Water crisis hits Abetifi Kyemase Technical Institute
Abetifi Kyemase Technical Institute is grappling with a persistent water shortage that is affecting academic and daily activities on campus. Management of the school is appealing to government, non-governmental organisations, philanthropists, and old students to support the institution with a mechanised borehole to address the challenge. The appeal was made by the Principal of the school, Patricia Awo Nkrumah, during a donation ceremony by the school's old students association, AVOSA.
Madam Nkrumah said the lack of potable water has become a major challenge on campus, with students struggling daily to access water for both domestic and academic use. She explained that the situation is negatively affecting academic activities and overall student welfare, making life difficult within the school environment. The Principal also highlighted inadequate infrastructure as another major concern, particularly the absence of an assembly hall. The old students association, AVOSA, has donated 100 mono desks to the school as part of efforts to support teaching and learning.
The Chairman of the association, Bismark Acheampong Baafi, said the gesture forms part of initiatives by alumni to give back to their alma mater and support infrastructure development. Mr. Baafi encouraged other old students to also contribute towards improving conditions in the school, noting that government alone cannot address all challenges facing educational institutions. Mr. Baafi further urged students to take technical and vocational education seriously, stressing that it offers strong pathways to employment and future opportunities.
