TUC threatens strike over alleged salary inequality
Joshua Ansah, General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), issued a warning on Friday, June 26, at the 2026 Annual Labour Conference in Ho, stating that organised labour could resort to strike action if the government fails to address alleged unequal salary adjustments in the public sector. He expressed worry about reports of some public sector workers receiving massive pay increases while others received less, noting, "We were all flabbergasted by a news flash yesterday, and we are yet to confirm that some people in this country have increased their salaries by 100%."
Ansah added, "You can't just give us 9% and go increase yours by 100%." He stressed that if the reports are true, labour will demand fairness and equal treatment, warning, "If it is not true, let us know. But if it is true, then get ready to share the cake equally. Otherwise, strike." He reminded the government that industrial action is a legitimate tool for workers when dialogue fails.
