Solomon Asamoah and Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi were ordered by the Accra High Court to open their defence after their submission of no case was dismissed. Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Justice Srem-Sai, announced this on a Facebook post on Thursday, July 2, 2026. The court rejected their argument that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence, directing them to "open their defence and give reasons why they should not be convicted for causing US$2 million loss to the nation."
The case, known as the "Sky Train" trial, involves an alleged US$2 million payment made by GIIF in 2019 for an equity stake in a project development company for a rail system that was never built. The state alleges the payment was made without proper board approval, resulting in financial loss. Justice Srem-Sai commended the prosecution team of State Attorneys and NIB investigators for their hard work.
