Respect customary laws - Accra Mayor to religious bodies over ban on noise-making
Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the Mayor of Accra, has appealed to residents to strictly comply with the ban on drumming and noise-making currently in force in the Ga State. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, and the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, are working together to ensure that the customary law is respected throughout the period. Churches, mosques and other religious bodies are expected to comply with the directive by avoiding the use of drums, loud instruments, microphones and clapping during worship. The Mayor added that the period should not be viewed only as a restriction, but also as a time for peace, reflection and prayer for Ghana.
City authorities, in collaboration with the Ga Traditional Council and the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, would strictly enforce the directive. The Mayor called on the public to support efforts by the Ga Mantse, the Regional Minister and the Assembly to maintain order and protect the peace of the city.
