NADMO alerts North East residents ahead of Bagre Dam spillage

National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has issued a flood alert to residents in the North East Region ahead of the planned spillage of Burkina Faso's Bagre Dam. Authorities in Burkina Faso have officially informed Ghana that the annual controlled spillage of the dam is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

NADMO warned that the exercise is expected to increase water levels in the White Volta River and its tributaries, raising the risk of flooding. The organisation urged residents, particularly those in vulnerable communities, to take immediate precautionary measures to safeguard lives and property. It advised households in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer grounds and encouraged farmers to harvest mature crops early. NADMO also cautioned against farming, fishing, grazing livestock, or engaging in any other activities within river channels and floodplains during the spillage period. Residents were further advised to move valuables, food supplies, livestock, and farming equipment to safer locations and to avoid attempting to cross flooded roads, rivers, streams, or bridges. NADMO's North East Regional Office has directed all district offices to intensify public education and awareness campaigns.
