NIA outlines four-step process for Ghanaians abroad to obtain Ghana Card
The National Identification Authority (NIA) has outlined a four-step process for Ghanaians living abroad to register for and obtain the Ghana Card. This initiative, implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to make the registration process more accessible to citizens outside the country. Applicants must first complete an online application and pay the registration fee, which is the equivalent of US$115 for those in the United Kingdom and other countries outside Africa.
After submitting the application, applicants undergo a virtual interview, followed by biometric data capture at a Ghana Mission. A special London Pop-Up Registration is scheduled for August 1, 2026, at Copthall Playing Fields, London, to provide an additional opportunity for Ghanaians in the United Kingdom to complete the process. The final stage involves the printing and issuance of the Ghana Cards. The NIA has encouraged Ghanaians living abroad to begin the registration process online.
