Montie 3 saga was my blessing in disguise - NDC's Ako Gunn (Video)
Godwin Ako Gunn, Deputy National Communications Officer of the NDC, described his arrest in the Montie 3 saga as "a blessing in disguise" on Adom TV's Badwam. He said that before the incident, he had suffered political defeats, including losing the Deputy Regional Secretary for Greater Accra and the Parliamentary Primaries in Okaikwei North in 2016. Mr. Ako Gunn explained that the Montie 3 incident led to his arrest alongside two others over comments made on Montie FM.
Mr. Ako Gunn stated that the arrest shifted public attention toward him and elevated his standing within the party, taking him "from the back seat to the front seat." He cautioned against "whimsical arrests," arguing that such actions can generate sympathy and public support. He admitted that public reaction to arrests may differ based on the personality involved. Salifu Maase, Alistair Nelson, and Ako Gunn were found guilty of scandalising the Supreme Court and sentenced to four months in prison on July 27, 2016. They were each fined GH¢10,000, while three directors also paid GH¢10,000 each, and the owner was fined GH¢30,000.
John Dramani Mahama pardoned the three after they had been in jail for barely a month, following advice by the Council of State and on compassionate grounds. On November 18, 2028, Mr. Gunn was elected Deputy NDC Communication officer after he polled 1816 votes.
