Landlord cries for help as 'galamseyers' divert river into his home at Osino
Fredrick Adamtey is calling for urgent intervention after illegal mining activities allegedly diverted a river into his home in Osino. He described the severe conditions he and his family are facing, saying the situation has made their home uninhabitable. According to him, a miner identified as Bayasco allegedly redirected the course of a nearby river during a galamsey operation, causing water to flow directly into his nine-bedroom house.
Despite constructing a fence wall around the property, Mr. Adamtey said the water continues to enter the house, worsening the flooding situation. He revealed that all his tenants have been forced to vacate the property due to the persistent flooding, adding that snakes have also been found and killed in the house as a result. He lamented, "We now have to wear boots before we can walk in our own house," expressing concern about the upcoming June-July rainy season. Mr. Adamtey said he has reported the issue to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the District Assembly, but no concrete action has been taken so far. A NADMO official visited to assess the situation, but there has been no follow-up response. The miner involved is no longer operating in the area, but the damage caused continues to affect his family.
The Assembly Member for the area, Opoku Agyeman, confirmed that he has inspected the site and reported the matter to the District Chief Executive, who has assured that steps are being taken to address the situation.
