Jomoro College bid succeeds under Affo-Toffey
Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Education, announced that the government will establish a new college of education at Ezinlibo, Jomoro. He stated, "I am happy to note that the government has taken a decision to establish a College of Education at Ezinlibo, Jomoro, in the Western Region." The establishment is part of efforts to expand teacher training capacity in the country.
The push for the College of Education in Jomoro was initiated by a former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces, Peter Augustine Blay, during the late President John Evans Atta Mills era but could not succeed. The former CDS joined forces with the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, to push the same agenda under the New Patriotic Party era of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, but that also did not materialise. In 2025, Madam Affo-Toffey joined forces again with Lt. Gen. Blay (rtd) to push the agenda.
Mr Iddrisu disclosed that discussions are already underway with key stakeholders to facilitate the project. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, subject to the availability of resources. He noted, "Work on it will commence somewhere in 2027, subject to the availability of resources that I intend to generate."
