Go After Galamsey Financiers … AU Envoys Charge Mahama
Africa Union's Ghana's Ambassadors charged Mahama to go after illegal mining financiers at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC) at Teshie, a suburb of Accra, yesterday. The dignitaries urged governments to chase the bankrollers of illegal miners to safeguard all aquatic bodies.
The Ambassadors expressed fear that water will become a luxury in Ghana and Africa in the next five decades if those bankrolling illegal mining are not arrested. They lamented the lack of strong political will by governments to protect aquatic bodies. The Ambassadors referenced 2025/2026 data by the World Health Organisation, which says over four million people in sub-Saharan Africa lack access to potable drinking water, while over seven million lack access to proper sanitation. Ambassador Samuel Ben Owusu, Professor Laud Mensah, Professor Wazi Apoh, and Ambassador Victor Anang spoke at the summit.
The dignitaries urged governments and leadership to continuously engage the youth in the fight against illegal mining. The Speakers maintained that Ghana's fight against illegal mining must be intensified and unabated.
