Ex-NAFCO CEO arrested at Airport for alleged attempt to empty frozen account
Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, former CEO of NAFCO, was arrested at the Accra International Airport while travelling to the United Kingdom. The arrest was a result of Aludiba's attempt to empty a frozen bank account linked to an ongoing criminal case against him. The Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, disclosed the arrest in a social media post, stating, "Law enforcement officers have, a while ago, arrested Mr Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba at the Accra International Airport."
Aludiba is facing charges of stealing and causing financial loss to the Republic. The trial High Court had earlier granted him leave to travel to the UK for a few days, but his attempt to use false means to empty his frozen account with Republic Bank on Thursday triggered the arrest. Aludiba is standing trial alongside his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, over allegations of financial impropriety running into millions of cedis. The Attorney-General will, on Monday, seek a review of the court order that permitted Mr Aludiba to travel outside the country.
