Chairman Wontumi Hauled in Court Over Alleged GH¢30m Financial Loss
Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Wontumi, was hauled in court after the Office of the Attorney-General filed fresh criminal charges against him on May 15, 2026. The charges involve alleged financial improprieties with the Ghana Export-Import Bank. He is the first accused person.
Thomas Antwi-Boasiako, his brother, is also being prosecuted but is currently at large. Wontumi Farms Limited, where Bernard Antwi-Boasiako is the sole shareholder and director, is also accused. The accused persons face four counts, including defrauding by false pretence, uttering a forged document, money laundering, and intentionally causing financial loss to a public institution. The A-G alleges that in 2018, Mr. Antwi-Boasiako and his co-accused obtained GH¢14.3 million from the Ghana Export-Import Bank under false pretences, part of a larger facility of GH¢18.7 million approved for a farming project. The prosecution contends that the accused misrepresented key facts, including claims of securing 100,000 acres of land. Mr. Antwi-Boasiako is accused of presenting a forged receipt to the bank for agricultural machinery worth GH¢4 million. The Attorney-General's office alleges that between 2018 and 2022, the accused diverted funds for personal use and caused a financial loss of over GH¢30 million to the bank.
The Economic and Organised Crime Office began investigations in March 2025 after unsuccessful attempts by the bank to recover the funds. Mr. Antwi-Boasiako was arrested, cautioned, and formally charged on May 14, 2026.
