Asutifi North MP donates computers to rural schools to boost ICT education

Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, has donated 50 desktop computers to basic schools in rural communities within the constituency to improve Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education. The computers were presented to the District Education Directorate through assembly members during a ceremony held at Kenyasi in the Ahafo Region. The initiative is themed "Enhancing Rural ICT Education in Asutifi North, A Priority," and is expected to benefit 10 basic schools across the constituency.

Mr. Addo explained that many pupils in rural communities are disadvantaged in ICT education due to the lack of computers in their schools. According to him, the donation forms part of efforts to bridge the gap between students in rural areas and their counterparts in urban communities. He stated, "In order to bridge the gap between pupils in rural communities and their colleagues in towns and urban areas in ICT education, I have decided to supply computers to all schools in the rural areas in phases." The beneficiary schools include Gambia No. 1, Obengkrom, Kojokrom, Tawiakrom, Kojonkrumah, Kwakuri, Goatifi, Amomaso, Aboagyaa, and Kwadwo Addai Krom. Each of the schools is expected to receive five computers.

The District Director of the Ghana Education Service, Naomi Asantewaa, together with the Presiding Member, Bawa Issaka, commended the MP for the initiative. They noted that many rural schools in the district have struggled with ICT education because of inadequate access to computers. According to them, the donation will help improve pupils' understanding of ICT and enhance their performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Mr. Addo urged the schools to take proper care of the computers to ensure they serve their intended purpose.
