Ashanti is no longer an NPP stronghold - Asiedu Nketiah declares
Ashanti is no longer an NPP stronghold, according to Johnson Asiedu Nketiah. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the NDC, declared on Wednesday at Nsuta Kwamang Beposo that the Ashanti Region can no longer be viewed as an exclusive stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), following notable gains in the 2024 general elections. He told chiefs, party supporters, and residents that the election results indicate a significant political shift in the region.
The NDC pushed its vote share in the region past 30 per cent, nearing 35 per cent, surpassing the traditional benchmark of around 28 per cent. The party also secured eight parliamentary seats in Ashanti - its strongest performance in the region to date, compared with three to four seats in past elections. Asiedu Nketiah said the results reflect growing acceptance of the NDC among Ashanti voters and underscored the region's influence in determining national outcomes.
Asiedu Nketiah assured that the party will maintain active engagement with the region, describing it as a long-term commitment. He further acknowledged the support of traditional leaders and religious groups, emphasising that their guidance, prayers, and encouragement contributed to the party's success.
