Tommy Annan-Forson wanted to be a pilot, a doctor, or follow another traditional path. He turned to mechanics and was taught by his eldest late brother in Osu. He fell ill with hepatitis (jaundice), which confined him to bed for several weeks. He heard the voice of Amankwah Ampofo on the radio and went to GBC to meet him. He began as a DJ at Babylon Club in Laboni. Amankwah Ampofo invited him to GBC for an interview about his DJ work and encouraged him to try radio.
Tommy Forson filled in for Ampofo on his Saturday program. The late director of radio liked what he heard and asked why he didn't apply for a permanent position. He applied and got a letter of employment. He started as a program assistant at GBC and was promoted straight to producer. He said that he has received 32 awards in total in his career. He said that his mindset has carried him through more than 47 years in broadcasting.
