Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will undertake critical infrastructure upgrades today, Sunday, March 29, 2026, in the Greater Accra and Tema regions. The coordinated maintenance exercises come at a sensitive time for the power distributor, which is simultaneously battling to restore supply to several communities in the Ashanti West Region following a major equipment failure on Friday.
In the Tema Region, technicians are scheduled to begin work at 9:00 am, with the exercise expected to last until 4:00 pm, a seven-hour window. This will impact Suncity, Manya Jopanya, Shai Hills, and Wildlife, along with surrounding residential enclaves. In the Accra East Region, a separate five-hour maintenance window has been carved out from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, impacting Spintex Road, Teshie & Nungua, and Manet & Baatsona. Engineers in the Ashanti West Region remain on high alert following an unplanned outage that struck on Friday, March 27. A fallen conductor at Ahiakaso caused a total loss of power to a cluster of towns, including Kodie, Ahenkro, Denase, Akom, Apagya, Aduman, Aduamoah, and Nkwantakese.
The ECG confirmed that "engineers were immediately deployed to the site to rectify the fault and restore supply." The power distributor has issued an apology to its customer base, acknowledging the frustration caused by the convergence of scheduled maintenance and accidental faults. Residents in the affected areas are advised to treat all electrical installations as "live" during the maintenance period, as power may be restored earlier than the scheduled completion times.
