Oti Regional Police Commander engages Nkwanta residents amidst renewed attacks
Alex Acquah, the Oti Regional Police Commander, visited Nkwanta in the Nkwanta South Municipality on March 26 to engage with residents and security personnel. The visit is part of the Ghana Police Service's efforts to restore calm, strengthen security presence, and reassure communities affected by attacks that left several people dead and property destroyed. DCOP Acquah met with police officers, urging them to remain vigilant and professional. He also led a joint security delegation to the Zongo community, where they met with the Zongo Chief, Alhaji Issaka Kayaba, and community elders.
During the engagement, the Regional Commander conveyed condolences from the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Management Board to families affected by the violence, noting the recent deaths of three adult male community members. Alhaji Kayaba assured the delegation that residents are committed to peace and unity, promising that there would be no retaliation. The Police Command reported, "The community affirms its commitment to peace, non-retaliation, and coexistence." DCOP Acquah also visited Dadaga to inspect the site of a previous arson attack that claimed two lives.
The Police Command said it will continue to closely monitor developments in the area while collaborating with other security agencies to maintain stability. Residents have been advised to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel. The Command urges residents to "remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with the security agencies," according to a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor.
