TVET workers embark on nationwide strike over unresolved grievances
Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training Service workers have begun a nationwide strike following management's failure to take "concrete and satisfactory steps" to address long-standing concerns. The directive, dated March 13, 2026, was issued by Divisional IMC Secretary Seth Botchway. He instructed all members of the Public Services Workers Union under the TVET Service to withdraw their services effective Tuesday, March 24.
The union said the strike became inevitable after several attempts to engage management failed to yield results. Issues raised by members, some dating back to March 10, were not adequately addressed, leading to a breakdown in dialogue. Union leaders indicated that the concerns have persisted for months, affecting the welfare and working conditions of staff across the TVET system. They have also called on members to submit additional concerns to be included in future negotiations.
The union says it remains open to engagement and has urged management to treat the outstanding issues with urgency to prevent further disruption to teaching and administrative activities nationwide. Workers have been advised to remain calm, disciplined, and law-abiding throughout the strike, while reporting any cases of intimidation, coercion, or victimisation to union leadership.
