Tensions resurface in Nkwanta South after fire destroys houses
Tensions have resurfaced in the Nkwanta South Municipality after a fire outbreak destroyed more than five houses in Keri, a farming community in the area. The fires started around 1:00 AM under circumstances that remain unclear.
Security agencies, including the military and a joint team of police personnel, have been deployed to the area. The Ghana National Fire Service also responded to help bring the situation under control. Keri has largely been deserted, with only a few women reportedly remaining in the community. Residents who fled did so out of fear of further attacks, as uncertainty continues to surround the renewed violence. The Adele, Akyode, and Challa groups previously signed a peace pact facilitated by the National Peace Council, which had offered assurances of lasting peace in the area.
The incident follows another troubling report from last week, in which two individuals were allegedly attacked by unknown assailants in their home.
