NPP constituency election: Initial annulment was unnecessary, but party decision must stand - Bantama MP

Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, expressed disappointment over the New Patriotic Party's decision to annul the initial constituency executive elections held on July 11, 2026. Speaking to JoyNews after casting his ballot in the re-run election at the Kumasi Cultural Centre, he stated, "I am disappointed that we had to come back and do this all over again. The first election was conducted peacefully, just as the ongoing one." He did not see the need for the NPP's National Steering Committee to take such a decision, adding that the process of the initial election was transparent.

Despite his reservations, Mr. Asenso-Boakye supports the decision to re-conduct the election because it is the party's directive. He acknowledged a fair and orderly process in the ongoing re-run after touring all three voting centers at the venue. He assured that he will work closely with whoever is elected by the party delegates, stressing that unity is key to securing victory for the party's flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2028 general elections. The re-run occurred after the NPP's National Steering Committee annulled the initial poll, citing breaches of party directive.
