Ghana School of Law student dies after collapsing during lecture
Ghana School of Law student died after suffering a medical emergency during lectures. The Students' Representative Council (SRC) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday, March 23, indicating that the student collapsed during an academic session on Saturday, March 21. Colleagues intervened and rushed the student to the Ridge Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The SRC said, "The SRC has confirmed that the incident occurred during academic activities… our now deceased was assisted by colleagues and transported to the Ridge Hospital, where he unfortunately passed despite efforts made."
The Council described the incident as a devastating loss and extended condolences. The school's management is offering counselling and psychological support to students. The SRC raised concerns that the institution's clinic may not have been accessible at the time the emergency occurred, describing the situation as troubling. The SRC said, "The SRC notes with concern reports that the School Clinic was not accessible at the time emergency care was needed. While these reports are yet to be fully established, they raise serious issues regarding student welfare and emergency response systems on campus."
The Council has requested an urgent meeting with management to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and to advocate reforms aimed at strengthening student health and safety. Among the measures being proposed are improved access to on-campus medical care, clearer emergency response protocols and increased investment in health infrastructure. The SRC stressed, "The safety, health, and well-being of students remain our utmost priority."
