Big Push: Kwame Agbodza reveals major road projects hit 50% completion
Governs Kwame Agbodza says some contractors have completed up to half of their assigned projects under the government's Big Push programme. Speaking on Joy News' PM Express on Tuesday, Agbodza said, "Some contractors have done 50% of the work already." The first phase of the programme is focused on trunk roads.
Agbodza pointed to the Western corridor from Takoradi through Wenchi to Wa, the Eastern stretch from Tema through Hohoe to Jasikan, and the central corridor from Accra through Kumasi to Tamale. He admitted that "none of those roads is in good condition." Contractors are working at an accelerated pace. Some contractors may "attempt to finish their entire work by the close of this year." Contractors are working overnight 24/7 and some have been doing this for the past four months. Projects were split into nine different lots, given to nine different contractors, maybe 25 or 30 kilometers each.
Transport operators are beginning to return to the Hohoe stretch. Agbodza saw a post from the MP for Hohoe that STC and VIP have started going to Hohoe.
