RTI Commission slaps GH¢220k penalties on GES, EOCO, others
The Right to Information (RTI) Commission has imposed fines totaling GH¢220,000 on four public institutions for failing to comply with the Right to Information Act, 2019. This was contained in a statement issued by the Commission on February 5, 2026. The statement noted, "Following investigations, hearings, and determinations made in accordance with Act 989, the Commission has imposed administrative penalties amounting to two hundred and twenty thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢220,000) on four (4) public institutions for failure to comply with their statutory obligations under the Act."
The sanctioned institutions include the Ghana Education Service (GES) - GH¢10,000, WBM Zion Senior High School - GH¢10,000, National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) - GH¢100,000, and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) - GH¢100,000. Richard Ahiagbah filed an RTI request for details on the 'Feed Ghana Programme'.
The Commission emphasized that continued non-compliance will attract further enforcement action. It stated, "The Commission emphasises that compliance with Act 989 is not discretionary. Failure to adhere to statutory timelines, disclosure duties, or enforcement directives constitutes a violation of the law and attracts regulatory consequences."
