Petitioner demands probe into KsTU VC's academic credentials
Alexander Kwame Boateng has called for the immediate suspension of Professor Gabriel Dwomoh, the Vice-Chancellor of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), and a probe into his academic credentials in a letter dated March 12, 2026. Boateng alleged that the Vice-Chancellor obtained a PhD from Atlantic International University, an institution listed by GTEC as unrecognised, but indicated Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica on his profile as the awarding institution. He questioned, "The question now is: why did the Vice-Chancellor indicate Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica (UNEM) on his profile rather than Atlantic International University, USA? At what point in time, and how, did he obtain the UNEM certificate?"
Boateng also criticised the KsTU Governing Council for a lack of transparency and procedural fairness in handling an earlier petition submitted in December 2025. He stated, "The failure to communicate directly with the petitioner is a significant departure from standard administrative courtesy and good governance, which requires that those who initiate a formal process be kept informed of its progress." He expressed concern that the Vice-Chancellor remains in office while under investigation, warning that the situation undermines confidence in the process. He noted, "In such instances, as a matter of prudence and to protect the institution's reputation and the integrity of the investigative process, the officer is typically asked to step aside or be suspended pending the outcome of the investigation."
Boateng warned that the Council's handling of the matter creates a troubling perception that could damage the institution's credibility. He said, "This perception is deeply damaging. It undermines the moral authority of the University's leadership and GTEC, demoralises staff, students, and other stakeholders, and exposes the University to significant reputational harm." He called on the National Intelligence Bureau to investigate the circumstances under which the Vice-Chancellor obtained the PhD from Atlantic
