NPP demands release of former NAFCO CEO and wife, alleges "state-sponsored bullying"
Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife were re-arrested shortly after the Attorney-General withdrew charges against them. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) described this development as "state-sponsored bullying and ruthless political intimidation." The NPP alleged that the couple's lawyers have been denied access to their clients for more than 24 hours following the re-arrest.
The Attorney-General's decision was to discontinue what had been described as a major prosecution case, popularly known as "The Rumble in the Jungle." The NPP stated that the two had fully complied with their bail conditions since their initial arrest in June last year. The NPP added, "They therefore pose no risk that justifies their detention overnight." Henry Nana Boakye stated, "The NDC government must remember that state institutions are temporary custodians of power, not owners of it."
The NPP is calling for the immediate release of Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife. Henry Nana Boakye stated, "The Republic gains nothing when investigative bodies appear more interested in spectacle and psychological pressure than in transparent and lawful prosecution."
Quick Summary
The NPP is accusing the government and EOCO of political harassment in the case of Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife- after their re-arrest. The party suggests the couple's detention raises concerns about due process and the misuse of state power.
